Matt Barnes Caps Off Great Week
6 years agoBoston Red Sox reliever Matt Barnes earned his sixth hold Sunday, retiring the side in the eighth inning of a 4-3 win over Houston. Barnes was near perfect in the Week of May 13, allowing just one hit in 12 batters faced, while also punching out seven. The 28-year-old hasn't recorded a save since May 7, and has moved into more of a high-leverage role, as the team's best reliever. The right-hander holds a 1.42 ERA in 19 innings pitched, with a 35:4 K:BB, while also stranding runners at a 98% clip. Brandon Workman earned the save Sunday, so it's possible the Sox will continue to ride the hot hand, depending on the situation.
