Martin Truex Jr. Leads Joe Gibbs Racing Drivers Sunday, Finishes Third
4 years agoMartin Truex Jr. just did not quite have the lift needed to keep up with Chase Elliott or Kyle Larson on Sunday. As a result, he was passed late in the race by Elliott and had to settle for third -- more than six seconds back of Larson. Truex Jr. did finish the best out of the Joe Gibbs Racing Drivers (3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th). He did enjoy a nice, dominant run in the middle of the race, As a matter of fact, the No. 19 did win the second stage and led the most laps (34). It was that final run that saw Truex Jr. just lose chunks of time. In the final nine laps alone, he lost nearly five seconds on both Larson and Elliott. Can that be corrected in time for next week?

Martin Truex Jr. A Chalk DFS Play At Daytona
1 month agoExpect Martin Truex Jr. to be one of the highest-owned drivers on the Daytona 500 slate this weekend. MTJ is driving the No. 56 Toyota for TRICON Garage this weekend, with the organization making its NASCAR Cup Series debut with technical help from Joe Gibbs Racing. Truex will start this year's Great American Race from the 39th position, giving him massive place-differential upside at a relatively low salary of just $7,200 on DraftKings. MTJ has typically run well at superspeedways throughout his career, although he has yet to get a victory at one. Still, Truex has finished 15th or better in all three of his Next Gen Daytona 500 starts, and if he can continue that streak this weekend, DFS owners will be looking at a massive day from the Mayetta, New Jersey, native.

Martin Truex Jr. Wins The Pole For Phoenix Finale
5 months agoMartin Truex Jr. will lead the field to the green in his final full-time Cup Series start as the Joe Gibbs Racing driver edged championship contender Joey Logano by 0.01 seconds in qualifying on Saturday to grab his second straight pole position. As far as Phoenix Raceway goes, the flat track in the desert has always been a good one for Truex. He won here back in 2021 and currently has back-to-back top-10 finishes at the track (a seventh and a sixth). Truex led 55 laps in the spring race here earlier this season and should be able to add to that total on Sunday. In practice on Friday, Truex looked to have one of the better cars on the long run, as the No. 19 Toyota was third-fastest in 20-lap average during the session. At just $9,000 on DraftKings, Truex makes for a pretty good DFS play on Sunday, as he should be able to grab some early dominator points while challenging for at least a top-10 finish.

Martin Truex Jr. Will Be Strong At Martinsville On Sunday
5 months agoMartin Truex Jr. is still winless on the 2024 Cup Series season, but that could change this weekend at Martinsville Speedway. The No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing team brought a rocket ship for Truex this weekend, as he was not only the fastest car in practice on Saturday, but also the fastest in qualifying, which means MTJ will lead the field to the green flag on Sunday. As far as long-run speed goes, Truex had the best 15- and 20-lap average during practice and ranked second-fastest in 25-lap average while posting the third-best 30-lap average. MTJ is a three-time Martinsville winner and has led 1,063 laps in his career at this race track. He should be able to add to that total on Sunday and compete for another win. As far as playability in DFS contests goes, Truex is relatively cheap on DraftKings ($9,300) and should be able to grab early dominator points. He's going to be a popular daily fantasy pick on Sunday and has a pretty high ceiling when it comes to scoring fantasy points.

Martin Truex Jr. Should Be Strong At Las Vegas
5 months agoEven though Martin Truex Jr. has had quite a bit of bad luck this season, he hasn't really lacked on speed, especially at intermediate race tracks. Truex ranks second-fastest on high-speed intermediate tracks in 2024 and one of his best finishes this year came at Kansas Speedway just a few weeks ago, when the No. 19 Toyota ended up third. That is noteworthy this weekend at Las Vegas, too, because Kansas is the sister track to Vegas. Additionally, Truex is really good at Las Vegas. He's currently on an eight-race streak of top-10 finishes and he has ended up 11th or better in 15 of the last 16 races at this track. That streak also includes two wins (in 2019 and 2017). This weekend, Truex was second-fastest in practice, but he qualified 12th for Sunday's race, so there's place-differential upside. He also had the best 10-lap average during practice, so at $9,000 on DraftKings, this is looking like a great spot to go big on MTJ. The No. 19 Toyota has the fifth-best average running position at Las Vegas and similar tracks this season.
