Marlins Extend Multi-Year Offer To Starling Marte
3 years agoThe Miami Marlins have extended a multi-year contract extension offer to outfielder Starling Marte, according to sources. Financial terms are unclear, but the team is hoping to have one in place before the trade deadline at the end of the month. Miami would prefer not to go into the offseason and wait until he becomes a free agent. Marte is reportedly seeking a three- or four-year deal in the $50 million range and has expressed his desire to stay with the team beyond 2021. If there is no agreement in place before the end of the month, sources believe that the Fish will trade him. The 32-year-old has been great this year, slashing .296/.403/.465 with six home runs and 13 steals in 46 games, but a trade to a contender would surely raise his fantasy value the rest of the way in 2021.
