Mark Vientos Sitting Against Marlins

New York Mets third baseman Mark Vientos will take a seat on Monday against the hosting Miami Marlins. Vientos will receive the day off after starting in each of the team's last 12 games. With Vientos starting on the bench, veteran Jose Iglesias will move to third base and bat seventh, while Jeff McNeil starts at the keystone and hits eighth against Marlins right-hander Yonny Chirinos. Vientos has earned the starting third base job in 2024 by hitting .292 in 211 plate appearances while also clubbing 12 homers. He's been even better in July, going 18-for-60 (.300) with two homers, four doubles and eight RBI in 16 starts. Iglesias, 34, has come out of nowhere to hit .389/.427/.578 with a 1.005 OPS for the Mets in 90 at-bats, albeit with just three homers and 16 RBI. He has never faced Chirinos in his career.
