Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mark Giordano suffered a head injury when he crashed into the end boards while jumping up on a rush in the first period of Thursday's 4-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes. It's been a difficult season for the NHL's oldest player as the 40-year-old also missed time earlier in the season with a finger injury and has been held out of the lineup as a healthy scratch of late. Off the ice, he recently suffered the loss of his father. The 18-year NHL veteran has tallied one goal and seven points on the season in 17:03 of average ice time per game. He also has 76 blocks and 33 penalty minutes in that time. The Toronto native won the Norris Trophy in the 2018-19 season with the Calgary Flames when he recorded 17 goals and 74 points across 78 games played.--Brenton Kemp
