Mariners Still Intend To Trade Edwin Encarnacion
6 years agoThe Seattle Mariners have told designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion about their plans to flip him after acquiring him from the Indians earlier in the offseason. He could even be traded before position players report to spring training this Friday, and the Mariners are willing to eat a sizable portion of the $25 million owed to the veteran in 2019. Seattle tried to shop Encarnacion to the Rays and Astros, but they weren't very interested in the aging slugger. His market isn't booming and most teams see him as a primary DH and sometimes first baseman. The best chances of the M's trading him are if another team were to suffer an injury at first base or DH. Until then, Seattle plans to mix and match at DH with Encarnacion, Ryon Healy and Daniel Vogelbach.
