Mariners-Mets To Announce Blockbuster Deal Tuesday
6 years agoThe Seattle Mariners and New York Mets have scheduled a press conference on Tuesday at 11 am ET to announce their blockbuster deal that will send second baseman Robinson Cano and closer Edwin Diaz to the Mets in exchange for outfielder Jay Bruce, reliever Anthony Swarzak, outfield prospect Jarred Kelenic, pitching prospect Justin Dunn and reliever Gerson Bautista. The physicals and paperwork is all done and Cano has waived his no-trade clause. The Mariners are reportedly eating $20 million of the remaining $120 million and five years left on Cano's contract. He's 36 and coming off a performance-enhancing drug suspension, but Cano can still produce for fantasy owners in his new environment. Diaz led baseball in saves last year and is as dominant as they come. He'll be the team's unquestioned ninth-inning man going into next year. The acquisition of Cano hurts Jeff McNeil's fantasy outlook.
