Marcus Mariota Fighting To Play In Week 17
6 years agoTennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota is working his way back from a stinger he suffered on Saturday night in Week 16, but his status for the Week 17 must-win game against the Colts likely won't come into further focus until later this week. “Just taking it day to day,” Mariota said during his regular weekly appearance on 104.5-FM’s “Wake Up Zone” on Wednesday morning. “I am doing my best, (trying) to get back. That’s all I can do. I’ll do everything in my power to see if I can go. Again, it is just taking it one day at a time.” If Mariota can't go, Blaine Gabbert would start under center on Sunday night, which would be a downgrade to Tennessee's pass-catcher. Either way, the Titans figure to lean on running back Derrick Henry and the ground game as they attempt to win a playoff spot. If Mariota starts, he'll be a low-upside QB2 at less than 100 percent. Head coach Mike Vrabel said Mariota's injury isn't the same elbow injury he suffered in Week 1 which caused numbness in his throwing hand for several weeks. Mariota could be active even if he's limited throughout the practice week.
