Manny Machado Is Padres' "Top Priority"
2 years agoWhile not going into much detail, San Diego Padres owner Peter Seidler said Tuesday that third baseman Manny Machado is the team's "top priority." Machado recently informed the team that he intends to opt out of the remaining five years and $150 million of his contract after the 2023 season unless an extension or restructuring of that contract is agreed upon. The Padres do seem open to negotiating during the season. It makes sense that Machado, who is 30 years old, would look to get an even richer deal after slashing .298/.366/.531 with 32 home runs, 102 RBI and nine steals in 2022 while also being an excellent fielder. His fantasy value will be high regardless of where he plays, but he will certainly benefit from hitting in a strong lineup like the Padres'.
