1 year agoSan Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado has been diagnosed with a hairline fracture in his third metacarpal bone in left his hand. Wednesday marked the second consecutive day Machado has been missing from the Padres' starting lineup as further tests revealed he indeed has a broken bone in his hand after initial tests did not discover any notable issue. However, manager Bob Melvin said it's unclear if his star third baseman will require a stint on the injury list. Machado hasn't been himself at the plate this season as he's hitting just .231 with five homers, two stolen bases, and a .654 OPS across 170 trips to the plate. The next 24 hours should be very interesting as the offensively-challenged Padres can ill afford to miss Machado for any length of time despite his slow start to the season.--Brenton Kemp
