Mallex Smith Cleared For Defensive Drills
6 years agoSeattle Mariners outfielder Mallex Smith (elbow) has been cleared for defensive drills on Tuesday, but he won't be allowed to throw yet due to his sore elbow. Smith will likely be kept from throwing for about a week, but it shouldn't keep him from starting the season on time as the team's center fielder. Smith broke out last year to the tune of a .296/.367/.406 slash line, two homers, 65 runs and 40 stolen bases with the Rays. He doesn't have any power to speak of, but he's a solid source of steals in the late middle rounds.
