Mackenzie Hughes A Sleeper At RBC Canadian Open
10 months agoMackenzie Hughes is one of the few golfers in the field with reasonable expectations to make it back-to-back Canadian winners at the RBC Canadian Open this week. The two-time PGA Tour winner does have four top-10 finishes so far in the 2023-2024 season, with his most recent one coming as a T6 at the Wells Fargo Championship two starts ago. He's also performed well in previous renditions of this tournament, having made the cut in four out of five starts with a T14 showing when the event was played at Hamilton Golf in Country Club in 2019. Hughes' enters the week with the fourth-best adjusted course fit over the last 24 rounds, and his elite short game will come in handy with a low greens-in-regulation expected this week. At a mere $8,300 price tag on DraftKings, Hughes projects as a low-owned leverage option with high-upside and win equity this week.

Mackenzie Hughes Could Have Challenge In Florida
1 month agoMackenzie Hughes is making cuts in 2025. The Canadian golfer has only missed a cut once so far. Hughes has not contended once in five appearances this year. At The Genesis Invitational, Hughes shot right around the same round all four days (74-73-74-75). It is partly why there are so many red numbers when it comes to metrics for Hughes. He ranks 149th on tour or worse in at least five major strokes gained categories including off the tee, putting, and approaching the green. PGA National is tough enough. For Hughes to have a birdie or better conversion percentage of 29.02% (157th) is even more stark. The Canadian at +8000 is even a bit of a surprise given his form.

Mackenzie Hughes Starts 2025 Season With Missed Cut
3 months agoMackenzie Hughes had a challenging week at last week's Sony Open, where he missed the cut and lost strokes in nearly every category, except around the greens. Throughout the 2024 season, he only missed four cuts and will be looking to regain his form when he tees it up this week at the American Express in Palm Springs, California. At last year's American Express, over 33% of approach shots were taken from 150-200 yards. In the past 12 months, Hughes has ranked in the 12th percentile for proximity to the hole on approach shots from the fairway at this distance. Including Hughes in DFS lineups this week comes with some risk.

Mackenzie Hughes Looks To Rebound From Tough Presidents Cup
6 months agoMackenzie Hughes is set to tee it up in this week's Sanderson Farms Championship. Hughes will look to rebound from a rough outing at the Presidents Cup, where he posted an underwhelming 1-3-0 record in the International Team's loss to the United States. The Canadian could find more luck on Mississippi soil. Hughes won the 2022 edition of the Sanderson Farms Championship and scored a T4 in the lead-up to the Presidents Cup at the Procore Championship while gaining an impressive 8.5 strokes tee-to-green. Though the fatigue factor is a real concern following last week's roller coaster of emotions, the 33-year-old is very capable of putting together a profitable week for his DFS backers at the Country Club of Jackson.
