Luis Torrens Goes Deep Saturday
4 years agoSeattle Mariners catcher Luis Torrens drew the start Saturday, and went 1-for-4 with a home run. The solo shot came in the top of the eighth inning, and temporarily gave the Mariners the lead, though his own error would contribute to the three runs Texas scored in the bottom of the inning. Torrens has received plenty of playing time, but his .621 OPS is just not enough to make him worthwhile fantasy-wise at the moment, even in two-catcher formats.

Luis Torrens Placed On Paternity List
9 months agoThe New York Mets placed catcher Luis Torrens on the paternity list on Friday and recalled catcher Joe Hudson from the minors in a corresponding move. Torrens will now be away from the team for the next one to three days, so Hudson will serve as the team's backup behind Francisco Alvarez over the weekend. The 28-year-old Venezuelan took over the backup duties from Tomas Nido this year and has only played in nine games in the Big Apple this year, going 8-for-24 (.333) with three home runs and five RBI in 26 plate appearances. He'll only become relevant in two-catcher leagues if Alvarez misses more time with an injury. In his seven years in the big leagues, Torrens has slashed .230/.292/.366 with 22 homers and 84 RBI.

Mets Acquire Luis Torrens From Yankees
10 months agoThe New York Mets acquired catcher Luis Torrens from the New York Yankees on Friday in exchange for cash considerations and designated catcher Omar Narvaez in a corresponding move, according to sources. Narvaez was hitting just .154 this year with five RBI in 28 games, while Torrens has spent the 2024 campaign so far with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, hitting .279/.339/.469 with an .807 OPS, five home runs and 19 RBI in 30 games played. The Mets are just trying to get by right now at the catcher position with Francisco Alvarez (thumb) still on the injured list. The 28-year-old Torrens will now serve as the direct backup to Tomas Nido with Narvaez out of the picture. Torrens can be ignored in fantasy leagues with a .227 career batting average and 19 home runs in six big-league seasons with three different teams.

Easton McGee, Adam Oller, Luis Torrens Outrighted
1 year agoThe Seattle Mariners outrighted right-handers Easton McGee (elbow) and Adam Oller and catcher Luis Torrens to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday. The 25-year-old has thrown 9 2/3 scoreless innings with a walk and three K's in two outings (one start) in the last two years with Seattle and the Tampa Bay Rays. Oller, 29, gave up 24 runs (22 earned) in just 19 2/3 innings over nine games (one start) for the Oakland Athletics in 2023 with 12 walks and 13 strikeouts. Torrens, 27, played in 18 games with the M's and Chicago Cubs this year and went 7-for-28 (.250) with no homers and four RBI in just 30 plate appearances at the big-league level.
