Lucas Gilbreath May Need Tommy John Surgery
2 years agoColorado Rockies southpaw Lucas Gilbreath (elbow) may need Tommy John surgery after undergoing an MRI exam. Gilbreath's 2022 campaign finished with a platelet-rich plasma injection in his elbow, and it appears that surgery could be the next step. In a recent report, the 26-year-old said, "We're still looking into different options," but all signs are pointing towards Tommy John surgery. Gilbreath posted a 4.19 ERA (3.53 FIP) with 49 strikeouts across 43 innings. He composed a 26.2% strikeout rate along with a 13.9% walk rate. The southpaw is entering his third pro season, which is already in jeopardy. There could be other options out there, but whichever path Gilbreath chooses will likely hinder his 2023 season.
