Lewis Thorpe Strikes Out The Side On Sunday
4 years agoMinnesota Twins pitcher Lewis Thorpe continued his strong start to the spring on Sunday against the Rays. Thorpe struck out the side in his lone inning of work, complete with five swings-and-misses and a fastball clocked at 93.7 MPH. Willy Adames, Austin Meadows, and Randy Arozarena all fell victim to Thorpe's heater, which has really looked much better this spring. The 25-year-old is making a convincing case for the fifth rotation spot, as he's pitched three scoreless innings with one walk and five strikeouts. Veteran Matt Shoemaker is the favorite for the fifth spot in the rotation, though Thorpe will likely get starts in 2021, given the age and injury histories of the Twins' back-end starters.
