Lance McCullers Jr. Could Need Surgery
6 years agoHouston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow acknowledged the possibility that starting pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. (elbow) could need surgery on his right elbow that would keep him from pitching in 2019. Luhnow said that McCullers "has been seen by some doctors and I think we're going to know more shortly." UCL damage would mean that McCullers would need season-ending Tommy John surgery. McCuller is dynamic when he's healthy, but he's yet to go over 128 1/3 innings in the major leagues and his heavy slider usage could have contributed to his elbow issues. If McCullers doesn't need surgery, he'll be a high-risk, high-reward second fantasy starter.
