Lack of Speed and Stewart-Haas Racing Closure Will Likely Doom Ryan Preece at Gateway
6 months agoRyan Preece qualified 32nd for this weekend's Gateway race but all signs point toward him having an extremely mediocre run on Sunday. All four Stewart-Haas cars qualified badly, most likely because it was announced that the team is going out of business, and while Preece's teammates haven't had a large difference in performance this year, Preece has consistently been the team's slowest driver, as his current speed percentile is 39.98 while his teammates are all between 52 and 53. It is rumored that his teammates haven't been sharing setup notes with him, thereby explaining his speed deficit. However, Preece did have a solid drive from 29th to 17th last year at this track. Knowing that he is the least likely SHR driver to have a ride next year may motivate him to deliver a bravura performance tomorrow, but most likely he will finish in the 20s.
