Kyle Larson's Promising Effort At Michigan Ends In A Wreck
4 months agoKyle Larson placed 34th in the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway despite leading 49 laps, the most of all drivers. Starting from the fourth position, Larson displayed one of the best cars in the field as he took the lead right from the first lap in the first stage. After leading for 36 laps, Larson lost the lead and ended the first stage in the 14th position after other drivers leapfrogged ahead of him due to pit strategy. In the second stage, Larson worked through the field and eventually found the lead again, even through green flag pit stops until a caution on lap 109. The No. 5 driver decided to pit for four tires and fuel while others stayed out, putting him in the middle of the field behind several slower cars. As the race restarted, Larson tried advancing back to the front quickly with fresh tires, but in turn three, Larson lost control of his vehicle, causing a multi-car wreck that ended his day. Larson's DNF in this race was his fourth of the season, and he slid back to fourth in the regular season standings. With the Cup Series next heading to Daytona, Larson is still looking for his first career top-5 finish at the site after placing 11th earlier in the year at the Daytona 500.
