Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson suffered a setback to his playoff hopes after a miserable 26th-place finish in Sunday's Hollywood Casino 400. Starting from the 11th position, Larson's day started off with promise in the first stage as he was gaining positions and running in the Top 10. However, this changed on Lap 20 when Larson blew a right rear tire and smacked the outside wall. By the end of the first stage, Larson fell off the lead lap with a wounded car and placed 35th. After multiple pit stops in the second stage, Larson rejoined the lead lap during the caution for Daniel Hemric's spin on lap 145 and then made a strategy for track position by staying out of pit road on older tires during a lap 162 restart. This resulted in Larson placing 30th at the end of stage two as the field quickly passed him on newer tires. In the final stage, Larson still struggled to gain track position, and despite running longer than most on a green flag run, he could not catch a break for a caution to come out with favorable timing. Eventually, Larson settled with an underwhelming finish of 26th, marking his worst Kansas finish since joining Hendrick Motorsports in 2021. Although Kyle Larson is now 18 points above the playoff cut line, the Cup Series is heading to Talladega next, one of Larson's worst statistical tracks with three top-10 finishes in 19 career starts.--Sean Engel - RotoBaller

Kyle Larson has become something of an agent of chaos in NASCAR as he can either dominate a race or crash anywhere and no one is surprised by either. Whenever he crashes (as he did two days ago in Indy 500 practice) there's always a lot of social media hubbub mocking people who call him the greatest driver in the world. As a result, he probably enters this race undervalued, particularly because he qualified 25th and doesn't have many great finishes at Talladega even though he's had a lot of speed in the past. Although he probably won't be one of the race's dominators, Larson is always worth starting when he qualifies this poorly since he could theoretically win anywhere even though he hasn't at Talladega yet. The fact that so many fans are underrating him because they think he's bad due to his crashing makes him even more valuable.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller

When Kyle Larson and Denny Hamlin started on the second row in Sunday's Food City 500 at Bristol, most people expected one or the other to dominate and overtake front-row starters Alex Bowman and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. It turned out to be Larson, who led over 400 laps for the second consecutive Bristol race, but Hamlin ran in the top five for the entire race (except for pit stop exchanges) and eventually finished second. He never had anything for Larson but was also never really challenged for second in the second half of the race after Bowman's engine failure. Although he failed to win his third race in a row, he gained 19 points on William Byron in the championship and now trails him by a mere 30 points.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller

Kyle Larson of Hendrick Motorsports will start third for Sunday's Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Larson has a top-5 starting position at Bristol for the eighth time in his Cup Series career. In 17 races at the Tennessee short track, Larson has two wins, 12 top-10 finishes, and an average finish of 11.0. Through eight races so far this season, Larson has one win and five top-10 finishes with an average finish of 13.8. In practice, Larson was fastest in the overall, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 consecutive lap average categories. With top-notch practice speeds, a high starting position that makes him a favorite to lead laps early, and great equipment, Larson is expected to compete for the win and is a core DFS option this week.--Sean Engel - RotoBaller

Kyle Larson had a race to forget at Darlington on Sunday. His race finished nearly before it started, as an unforced error caused him to crash into the inside retaining wall on Lap 4. Although he spent over half the race in the garage, he did return to the track. Shortly after Ryan Blaney passed Tyler Reddick with three laps to go in regulation, Reddick hit the wall and Larson checked up while running behind him, which caused Bubba Wallace to spin him out and led to the chaotic pit-stop reshuffle under caution that ultimately decided the race. After the second crash, Larson did not return to the track and finished next to last in 37th, which caused him to drop from second to sixth in points, losing 55 points to his teammate and points leader William Byron. Nonetheless, this hardly matters, since he's almost certainly locked into the playoffs after his win at Homestead.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller
