Kyle Gibson Doomed By Lack Of Offense, Bullpen On Thursday
6 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Kyle Gibson took his fifth loss of the season Thursday against the Boston Red Sox. The right-hander didn’t pitch badly at all, but he suffered under a lack of offense and lack of support from his bullpen. Gibson got into a bases-loaded jam in the top of the fifth inning after a solo home run by Mookie Betts, but prevented any further damage. He pitched six innings, allowed two runs, seven hits, and struck out five batters. Unfortunately for Gibson, the Red Sox broke the game open in the last three innings of the game, battering the Twins bullpen for nine hits and seven more runs. Without their two hottest bats — Eddie Rosario (shoulder) and Eduardo Escobar (elbow) — the Twins could barely muster any offense the entire game. Gibson will have to hope for better results — and better support overall — in his next start against the Chicago White Sox, where he will be an intriguing streaming option.
