Kyle Garlick Hits Go-Ahead Homer
4 years agoMinnesota Twins outfielder Kyle Garlick came up big for his team in Sunday's extra-innings win over the Cleveland Indians. Garlick entered the game as a defensive replacement for Max Kepler (hamstring) in the seventh inning. He stepped up to the plate with the game tied and two runners on in the 10th inning and proceeded to crush a 3-2 fastball from James Karinchak into the center-field seats to give the Twins the lead. Garlick's blast traveled 442 feet at an exit velocity of 109.3 MPH. The 29-year-old owns a .723 OPS this season, but his success has mostly come against lefties, despite the home run off the right-handed Karinchak. Garlick's .835 OPS against left-handed pitching this season and Kepler's hamstring injury make the former a likely starter on Monday against Baltimore Orioles' southpaw John Means.
