Kwang-Hyun Kim Earns An Exhibition Game Save
4 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals closer Kwang-Hyun Kim earned a save in Wednesday's exhibition win over the Kansas City Royals. Kim threw just 15 pitches and struck out the side in his first appearance since surprisingly being named closer. Giovanny Gallegos was expected to close until Jordan Hicks was ready, but then Gallegos was late to Summer Camp because of a positive COVID-19 test and Hicks opted out of the season. The next in line was said to be Ryan Helsley, but then as soon as Carlos Martinez, another early closer option, was given a rotation spot, Kim was named as the team's closer. It's been a wild ride in the St. Louis bullpen already, and there haven't even been any real games yet. Kim doesn't have the strikeout stuff you usually see in a closer, but he's certainly off to a good start and must be owned in all formats right now.
