Kraken Snag Carson Soucy In Expansion Draft
3 years agoThe Seattle Kraken secured a strong group of defensemen on Wednesday during the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft and snagged an underrated defender from the Minnesota Wild in Carson Soucy. The 26-year-old scored just one goal last season but he added 16 assists in 50 games while averaging just over 15 minutes of playing time per game. He is signed for two more years with a $2.75 million AAV. The 6-foot-5, stay-at-home defenseman has an opportunity for an expanded role in Seattle after being stuck behind the likes of Jonas Brodin, Mathew Dumba, and Jared Spurgeon in Minnesota. It's possible that Minnesota and Seattle had a side deal to ensure that promising young goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen was not selected in the draft after he was left exposed along with Soucy.
