Kole Calhoun Begins To Cool Off
2 years agoAfter getting off to a scorching-hot start in May, Texas Rangers outfielder Kole Calhoun looks like he might be beginning to cool off a little bit. In May, Calhoun had a slash line of .326/.382/.630 in 102 plate appearances with seven home runs, 19 RBI and an OPS of 1.012. So far in 2022, Calhoun ranks in the 92nd percentile of all MLB hitters in hard-hit rate, the 89th percentile in barrel percentage and the 87th percentile in average exit velocity. Additionally, Calhoun's 50% hard-hit rate ranks among the top 10% of all hitters in Major League Baseball. During his last three games, Calhoun has gone 2-for-12 with three strikeouts, possibly indicating that this Babe Ruth-like stretch is closing. If there is one universal truth to Calhoun's game, it might be that he does not have much discipline at the plate. In 2022, Calhoun ranks in just the sixth percentile in whiff rate, the 26th percentile in chase rate and the 21st percentile in walk rate.
