Khalil Watson Goes To Marlins At 16th Overall
3 years agoThe Miami Marlins selected Wake Forest High School shortstop Khalil Watson with the 16th overall pick in the 2021 MLB amateur draft on Sunday. Watson was MLB Pipeline's No. 4 overall prospect entering the draft, so the Marlins could have the steal of the draft with this pick. The 5-foot-9, 178-pounder swings a big bat from the left side of the plate and is one of the most explosive shortstop talents this year in a stacked class. Watson's power is ahead of his hit tool, but he's also patient and selective at the plate. On top of the raw power, this kid has well above-average speed as a base-stealing threat. Because of his quickness and solid arm strength, Watson should be able to stick at shortstop in the long term, and he'll be an enticing fantasy asset when he gets to the big leagues because of that power/speed potential at a premium position.
