Kevin Pillar Gets The Night Off Amidst Struggles

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Pillar will have the night off for the team’s series opener against the Houston Astros on Monday. Randal Grichuk will get the start in center field in Pillar’s place. Pillar had a nice start to the month of June but tailed off in the middle of the month and hasn’t been quite as good since. Pillar’s struggles have been emphasized over his last five games, going 2-for-21 with two doubles, four strikeouts and zero walks. Given Pillar’s prowess in center field, chances are it would take a lot more of a slump to see him lose playing time. However, in a very crowded outfield also featuring the likes of Grichuk, Teoscar Hernandez, Curtis Granderson and Steve Pearce, it’s possible in theory that Pillar could sit more often if he continues to struggle.
