Kevin Harvick Fails To Make Championship Race
4 years agoIn one of the biggest shocks in recent history, Stewart-Haas Racing's Kevin Harvick finished 17th and failed to make it to the championship race at Phoenix. Harvick started from the sixth position, but things went south right from the drop of the green flag. Harvick struggled with the handling of his car and failed to score a point in the first stage. Things would get worse in the second stage, as Harvick would cut a tire after contact with Matt Kenseth and drop a couple of laps down. From there on, Harvick would be in a fight to get into the free pass spot, and a caution with around 100 laps to go gave the No. 4 his lap back. With Chase Elliott leading the race and taking away one of the four championship spots, Harvick was only a point behind going into the final lap. Harvick desperately tried to pass Kyle Busch, even flat out spinning him off of the final turn, but Harvick would also spin, losing multiple spots. Despite nine wins, Harvick will not race for a championship.
