Kevin Gausman Looking Like An Ace
4 years agoSan Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kevin Gausman has looked the part of an ace in his first two starts of the 2021 season. He threw seven innings of one-run ball with five strikeouts and one walk in the team's 3-2, 10-inning win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. Gausman had his second straight quality start and outdueled Blake Snell. The right-hander held Jake Cronenworth, Wil Myers, Manny Machado and Eric Hosmer to one hit in 12 at-bats. Gausman hasn't had a win yet in 2021, but he has allowed only two earned runs with three walks in 13 2/3 innings (1.32 ERA) with 11 strikeouts in his first two starts. He has allowed two earned runs or less in his last seven starts dating back to last year, with a 2.19 ERA in that span. The right-hander also averaged 95 mph on his fastball after sitting at 93.6 mph on Opening Day.
