Kevin Gausman Looking Like An Ace
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Kevin Gausman has looked the part of an ace in his first two starts of the 2021 season. He threw seven innings of one-run ball with five strikeouts and one walk in the team's 3-2, 10-inning win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. Gausman had his second straight quality start and outdueled Blake Snell. The right-hander held Jake Cronenworth, Wil Myers, Manny Machado and Eric Hosmer to one hit in 12 at-bats. Gausman hasn't had a win yet in 2021, but he has allowed only two earned runs with three walks in 13 2/3 innings (1.32 ERA) with 11 strikeouts in his first two starts. He has allowed two earned runs or less in his last seven starts dating back to last year, with a 2.19 ERA in that span. The right-hander also averaged 95 mph on his fastball after sitting at 93.6 mph on Opening Day.
