Kenley Jansen Given Day Off, Will Still Be Ready
7 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen has been given the day off from his bullpen session on Friday. He'll still be ready for Opening Day, though, since relievers are given a lighter workload in the spring. The team is also mindful of his innings from last season and hopes to give him a similar number of opportunities this year. He's expected to make his Cactus League debut on March 9, according to MLB.com's Ken Gurnick. Jansen is the top closer in baseball and only one of a handful of relievers that can reasonably be reached for in the middle rounds. In 2017, he punched out 109 batters in 68 1/3 innings and walked only seven. Anything approximating those numbers this season will be most welcomed by his owners.
