7 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen put in work for his 23rd save of the season Wednesday against the Pirates. Jansen entered the game with one out in the eighth inning up by two and proceeded to pitch 1 2/3 innings, allowing no runs on two hits and no walks with three strikeouts. Jansen now has five multi-inning outings on the season to go with a 2.21 ERA, 42 strikeouts, and just nine walks in 40 2/3 IP. He remains a stud for both the Dodgers and fantasy owners.--Connelly Doan - RotoBaller

4 weeks agoLos Angeles Angels relief pitcher Kenley Jansen (shoulder) is scheduled to make his spring training debut against the Athletics on Saturday. Jansen missed the end of last season due to shoulder inflammation, but it wasn't expected to be an issue heading into the 2025 season. Jansen signed a one-year deal with the Angels over the offseason. The assumption is that Jansen will operate as the closer given he's 32 saves away from passing Lee Smith for third in all time in career save. Ben Joyce will likely operate as the set-up man and learn behind Jansen before taking over as the closer of the future in Los Angeles.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

2 months agoAccording to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, relief pitcher Kenley Jansen has agreed to a one-year, $10 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. Jansen has spent the last two seasons with the Boston Red Sox after a brief stint with the Atlanta Braves and a long tenure with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Last season, Jansen posted a 3.29 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP across 54 2/3 innings. He struck out 62 batters and tallied 27 saves. He ended the season on the injured list with a shoulder injury but is not expected to be limited during spring training. He posted a below-average 9.2 percent walk rate but was able to limit hard contact with a strong 37.0 percent hard-hit rate. He also generated a 3.24 xERA and a .208 xBA, which placed him in the 82nd and 86th percentile, respectively. He has tallied at least 25 saves in each of the past four seasons. Joining the Angels, fantasy managers should expect Jansen to operate as the top ninth-inning option, which will move Ben Joyce to a setup role.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

2 months agoAccording to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, the Boston Red Sox are not expected to re-sign free-agent relief pitcher Kenley Jansen. The team remains linked to several of the top relief pitchers, but Jansen will likely not return to Boston. The 37-year-old spent the past two seasons with the Red Sox and held a 3.44 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP across 99 1/3 innings of work. He tallied 56 saves with 114 strikeouts. Cotillo noted that given how his time in Boston ended last season, the door is likely closed on a reunion. During the final weeks, Jansen was placed on the injured list and did not travel with the team. In addition, before the team's final three games, the reliever cleaned out his locker and went home. Jansen spent most of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2010 through 2021. Throughout the offseason, the right-hander has been linked to several teams, including the Toronto Blue Jays.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

6 months agoBoston Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen (shoulder) is expected to land on the IL, ending his season. Jansen has been battling a shoulder injury for a while now and has battled control and velocity issues because of it. Manager Alex Cora said that Jansen has had some trouble bouncing back from outings, including Sunday in his inning of work against the Minnesota Twins. The righty is set to become a free agent at the end of this year, but his age combined with his recent injury history could scare teams away from him. The Red Sox will likely close by committee for the final week of the season, with Chris Martin and Justin Slaten the favorites to get saves.--Matt Garon - RotoBaller
