5 years agoMajor League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred is scheduled to implement a 60-game season that will start on July 29, although no official announcement has been made. This comes as the Players Association rejected MLB's latest proposal of a 60-game schedule with expanded playoffs. By rejecting the league's latest offer, the players union retains the right to file a grievance against MLB, claiming that they acted in bad faith during negotiations. The owners have consistently been pushing for fewer games, while the players have wanted more games at full prorated salaries. Spring training 2.0 is expected to take place in Major League stadiums later this month instead of at spring training facilities after the league shut down all spring training camps last weekend due to COVID-19 scares. Even if a start date to the season is confirmed, there's no guarantee that MLB will be able to start and finish a shortened season amid the coronavirus pandemic.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
