Julio Rodriguez Ramps Up Activities, Unlikely To Return This Weekend
4 months agoSeattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez (ankle) went through running exercises for the second day in a row on Thursday, including jogging the bases. Rodriguez didn't take batting practice, though. Manager Scott Servais still won't put a timeline on Rodriguez's recovery, and a return for the weekend series against the visiting New York Mets appears unlikely, according to a source. It's also possible his prognosis changes again, as the Mariners are treating it day by day. It's possible the M's could use J-Rod at designated hitter when he returns, as running and taking turns have been his biggest issue. The emergence of Victor Robles in center field in Rodriguez's absence may cause the Mariners to be more inclined to use Rodriguez at DH as well. Servais said on Tuesday that Rodriguez might need a minor-league rehab assignment, although doing so could pose further injury risk. Despite a down season, the 23-year-old is a must-start in fantasy lineups when he's healthy.
