Josh Staumont Struggles Against Cleveland
4 years agoKansas City Royals reliever Josh Staumont allowed three runs in 2/3 of an inning Tuesday against the Cleveland Indians. Staumont struck out Jose Ramirez to start the seventh before walking Franmil Reyes and allowing him to score on an RBI double by Harold Ramirez. Josh Naylor then drove in Ramirez on a single before Staumont was pulled by manager Mike Matheny. Tyler Zuber came in and allowed Naylor to score, leaving the current Kansas City closer with an ugly 40.50 ERA and 4.50 WHIP on the night. The continued favorite to earn saves in Kansas City, this outing should be a minor bump in the road on Staumont's path to ninth inning success. Entering Tuesday, Staumont had a 0.63 ERA and 0.69 WHIP, so there is not yet cause for concern. Unless multiple blowups in a row occur, Staumont is still the reliever to roster in Kansas City.
