Josh Jacobs Needs To “Earn” Starting Role
5 years agoOakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden reiterated Friday that Josh Jacobs will not simply be handed the starting duties as the team’s lead running back. He comes into camp as the odds-on favorite but Gruden stated that he has to “be one tough guy and do it down after down when you are tired.” From a fantasy perspective, we’d like to see him not only earn the starting role but be an every-down back. Veteran Doug Martin will challenge Jacobs for reps, and Jalen Richard figures to contribute primarily as a pass-catcher, so it’s likely the first-round rookie will earn a significant role with the offense this season. Jacob’s stock will likely only grow throughout the preseason and is a sure-fire RB2 in fantasy.
