5 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals outfielder Jose Martinez (shoulder) is throwing on Wednesday, which is an improvement over Tuesday when he did outfield work. Martinez is nearing a rehab assignment and could be a candidate to return to the active roster by the end of the month, barring any setbacks. The 31-year-old is hitting .266/.336/.401 with 10 home runs and 40 RBI in a step back from his 2018 season. At best, Martinez will hope for a part-time role in St. Louis' crowded outfield when he's up to speed. The Cardinals will have to get creative with playing time between Marcell Ozuna, Dexter Fowler, Harrison Bader, Lane Thomas, Tyler O'Neill and Martinez down the stretch as they attempt to win the division.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
