6 years agoTampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jose Alvarado earned a save Monday versus the Royals. He closed out the 1-0 victory with a scoreless ninth inning only marred by a walk. It would be his fifth save of the season. An argument could be made that Alvarado got the save attempt due to Sergio Romo having been used often lately but be cautious. The Rays are highly unlikely to make the playoffs and they are already giving younger players opportunities in several positions to build for the future. Romo is still listed as the closer and is the more desirable player at the moment though.--Jamie Mellor
