Jose Aldo Controls The Bout To Take The Decision
4 years agoJose Aldo showed much of his old ways on Saturday night, securing a unanimous-decision win over Marlon Vera in the night's co-main event. Aldo took control of the first round, landing some big leg kicks and working some body strikes. After a second round that saw Vera take the round, Aldo utilized the ground game to secure the 29-28 decision on all three of the judges' scorecards. Statistically, though, Aldo actually had lower numbers than Vera, landing 44 significant strikes (60 total strikes) and failing to land either of his two takedown attempts. Vera was ranked No. 15, and that's about the range Aldo probably needs to stay in to earn victories. He'll be more of a crapshoot if he faces more advanced fighters.
