Jordan Yamamoto Sent To Alternate Training Site
4 years agoThe Miami Marlins optioned starting pitcher Jordan Yamamoto to their alternate training site on Friday, meaning that he won't be a part of the team's Opening Day roster. With Yamamoto likely out, it could be good news for Elieser Hernandez's chances of winning the final rotation spot. Yamamoto, a 24-year-old right-hander, went 4-5 with a 4.46 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 82 strikeouts in 78 2/3 innings over 15 starts in his first year in the major leagues. Predictably, he had his ups and downs for a last-place Marlins club, and he can't yet be trusted in most mixed leagues when he's starting. There's still a chance that Yamamoto is contributing to the team's rotation before the end of the 2020 season.
