Jordan Montgomery Officially The Fifth Starter
7 years agoNew York Yankees manager Aaron Boone officially tabbed starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery as the fifth starting pitcher for the club on Friday. The 25-year-old won the job last season, making 29 starts and posting a 9-7 record with a 3.88 ERA. In June and September he was particularly strong, going 4-0 with a 2.59 ERA and 2-0 record with a 2.70 ERA in those months, respectively. This spring, Montgomery has tossed 8 2/3 innings in three outings, posting a 1.04 ERA and striking out 11. He was seen as the clearest candidate for the job, simply having to show up in shape, not get injured and not pitch atrociously to win the job once again. Montgomery could become a strong fantasy sleeper if he builds on his positive rookie season with a club considered one of the best in the American League.
