Jordan Hicks To Begin Year On Injured List
4 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Shildt said that relief pitcher Jordan Hicks (elbow) will start the regular season on the Injured List while recovering from Tommy John surgery last June. However, the Cardinals expect Hicks to contribute in a late-inning role soon, so it may not be long before he's an option for the ninth inning during the 2020 season. The 23-year-old flamethrower can reach triple digits on the radar gun with his fastball, which makes him an intriguing fantasy closer. However, starting the season late in a 60-game schedule means that Hicks won't be all that attractive in redraft leagues. When he's ready to return, it could be a committee situation in the ninth inning for the Cardinals, including Hicks and Giovanny Gallegos.
