Jonah Heim Gets A Breather Against Angels
1 year agoTexas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim will be given the day off on Monday against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels. Heim just returned from the injured list due to a torn tendon sheath in his wrist on Sunday, so the Rangers are going to ease him back into starting catching duties. Mitch Garver will catch right-hander Max Scherzer on Monday and will hit fifth against Angels left-hander Patrick Sandoval. Heim went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout in his first game back on Sunday, and the 28-year-old switch-hitting catcher is now batting .278/.336/.474 on the season with an .810 OPS, 14 home runs, 70 RBI and 49 runs scored in 331 at-bats. Heim has been plenty valuable in single-catcher leagues as a first-time All-Star in 2023.
