Jon Rahm To Use Driver Plenty at Carnoustie
6 years agoJon Rahm is one of the hottest golfers in the world with three top-five finishes in his last four starts, including two in a row at the French and Irish Opens that he used to prepare for this week's Open Championship at Carnoustie. After playing a couple of practice rounds Rahm has confirmed he will use driver in an attempt to overpower the golf course. “You can lay up with an iron farther back and have 140 or 150 meters to the front and have a 7-, 8- or 9-iron in,” Rahm said. “But if you hit a good one with a driver, you’re going to have nothing to the green." The rough isn't an issue this year either, according to Rahm. “If you hit the rough this year, it’s not as thick as other years. You actually get a lot of good lies, so you can still hit the green with confidence.” Rahm certainly has the length, and the game, to overpower a dry Carnoustie with little rough, and it should be a surprise to no one if he takes home the Clarrett Jug come Sunday.
