Jon Gray Pulled With Hot Spot On Finger
5 years agoColorado Rockies manager Bud Black said that starting pitcher Jon Gray (finger) developed a "hot spot" on a finger on his pitching hand during his outing on Monday against the Diamondbacks and was pulled in the sixth inning as a result. Black said the quality of Gray's pitches were being affected. The right-hander allowed five hits and two earned runs while walking two and striking out two in 5 1/3 innings in the no-decision. The good news is he didn't allow a long ball -- he's allowed 11 in his 65 2/3 innings -- but it's unclear if he'll be able to make his next start. Gray owns a 4.52 ERA and nice 9.32 K/9, but he'll need to avoid the home run ball in the long run to be a helpful mixed league starter. It doesn't help that he pitches at Coors Field half the time.
