Johnny Cueto Earns Quality Start, Win Against Phillies
4 years agoSan Francisco Giants starting pitcher Johnny Cueto allowed three runs on six hits over six innings on Friday against the Philadelphia Phillies to earn a quality start and his first win since May 31. The 35-year-old right-hander also broke a 3-3 tie in the fourth inning when he drew a walk and scored on a triple. Cueto had a 1.80 ERA over his first three starts of the season, but he missed almost a month with a right lat strain and didn't look the same when he returned in early May. The veteran entered Friday with a 5.29 ERA in seven starts since coming off the injured list. After the quality start against Philly, Cueto is sporting a 4.05 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with 47 strikeouts and 11 walks in 11 starts over 60 innings so far this year. It was an encouraging outing for Cueto's fantasy managers, but he'll likely continue to be hit or miss, depending on the matchups.
