John Schreiber Earns His Third Save On Monday
2 years agoBoston Red Sox relief pitcher John Schreiber closed out the team's 4-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday to earn his third save of the year. He pitched the final 1 2/3 innings of the game and retired each of the five batters he faced, tallying one strikeout along the way. The team's primary closer, Tanner Houck, had pitched on both Saturday and Sunday so he was likely unavailable for Monday's contest. Houck is 6-for-6 in save chances since taking on the role in early June, so he's done nothing to lose his ninth inning role. However, Schreiber has been the team's most impressive reliever by most measures this year. He owns a 0.66 ERA and a 0.66 WHIP over 27.1 innings. He's compiled 15 holds and he's 3-for-3 in save chances. He's the reliever to look for if Houck stumbles or suffers an injury.
