Edmonton Oilers defenseman John Klingberg (lower body) might be back in the lineup for Wednesday's Game 2 against the Los Angeles Kings. "Yes, he definitely can be a player for us coming in Game 2," Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch said on Tuesday. "Whether we make that decision tomorrow, but I would say we will see him at some point in the series." Klingberg has sat out 11 games due to a lower-body injury. He was limited to four points (one goal, three assists) in 11 games with the Oilers during the regular season. However, Klingberg has previously found considerable success in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, recording 39 points (eight goals, 31 assists) in 63 career games.

Edmonton Oilers defenseman John Klingberg (undisclosed) will not be in the starting lineup on Tuesday evening when the Oilers face the Utah Hockey Club. Klingberg has missed the previous six contests due to this injury. As a result, Troy Stretcher will remain in the starting lineup. Before sustaining this injury, Klingberg tallied four points (one goal) across five contests. During this stretch, Klingberg logged 12 shots on goal with three hits and nine blocked shots. Through 10 games this season, the 32-year-old has found the back of the net just one time and added three helpers. During the 2023 season, Klingberg tallied a similar five points over 14 NHL contests. When Klingberg is cleared to return to the starting lineup, he will not carry any fantasy value, given his lack of scoring upside.

Since linking up with the Oilers in January, Klingberg has registered four points (one goal, three assists) while blocking 12 shots in 10 games. With Mattias Ekholm (undisclosed) also sidelined, Troy Stecher has been getting regular playing time. However, he has not made a significant impact and should not be considered for fantasy purposes. Edmonton Oilers defensemen Mattias Ekholm (illness) and John Klingberg (undisclosed) will not play in Thursday's showdown against the Montreal Canadiens. Both players missed Wednesday's practice and will come out of the lineup for at least one game. Troy Stecher and Cam Dineen will fill the gaps on the blue line, with Darnell Nurse and Brett Kulak moving up in the lineup. Dineen will make his Oilers debut on Thursday. The 26-year-old has previously skated in 34 games in the big league with the Arizona Coyotes, posting seven assists. He has flashed some offensive upside in the minors this season, leading all defensemen on the Bakersfield Condors roster with five goals and 24 assists over 45 AHL games.
