John Elway Believes In Drew Lock
5 years agoDenver Broncos general manager John Elway has been looking for an adequate replacement under center since Peyton Manning retired after bringing a third Super Bowl title to the city of Denver. Elway liked what he saw from Drew Lock in his rookie season in 2019. "I think with the way Drew played at the end of last year, we saw the signs of a guy that has a chance to be very successful in this league," Elway said. The Broncos started six different QBs in the first 59 games after Manning's retirement. Lock spent much of his first season on Injured Reserve after a preseason thumb injury, but he won four of the final five games when he entered the lineup to close the season. He completed 64.1 percent of his passes for 1,020 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions. He also led two game-winning drives. The Broncos think that they've hit on their guy in Lock, which is why they have added plenty of offensive weapons around him heading into 2020. There is upside in Lock's arm, but he'll continue to be more of a midrange QB2 for fantasy owners until he can prove successful over a full season in the NFL.
