4 years agoToronto Blue Jays pitcher Joel Payamps earned the final spot on the club's 26-man roster. The rookie hurler had been bounced around on waivers — with both the Jays and the Boston Red Sox claiming him twice since late November — but he threw 5.1 shutout innings in the spring. Still, the right-hander struggled with his control and issued three walks and hit a batter. Primarily a sinker/slider pitcher, he has the ability to throw multiple innings which was likely attractive to the Jays as the club is dealing with numerous pitching injuries. Payamps is one of 14 pitchers that the club will carry on opening day. He has limited value unless he moves into a high-leverage role which seems unlikely.--Marc Hulet - RotoBaller
