Joe Maddon Would Like David Fletcher To Steal More Bases
4 years agoLos Angeles Angels second baseman David Fletcher is one of manager Joe Maddon's favorite players because he's a throwback and gritty player who makes elite contact, gets on base by any means necessary and is a top defender at the keystone. But Maddon would like if it Fletcher became "more of a base-stealing threat" in 2021. Fletcher thinks he can improve on his career total of 13 steals, but he'll also be mindful not to give away outs with Mike Trout and Anthony Rendon behind him in the lineup. The 26-year-old was one of the best leadoff hitters in the game last year, slashing .319/.376/.425 with three homers, 13 doubles, 18 RBI and 31 runs scored in 49 games. He has the ability to play pretty much anywhere on the diamond, but he'll be the team's primary second baseman this year.
