Jimmy Garoppolo Scores Two TDs After Trey Lance's Injury
2 years agoSan Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo completed 13-of-21 attempts for 154 yards and one touchdown after taking over for the injured Trey Lance in the 49ers' 27-7 trouncing of the Seattle Seahawks. The 30-year-old scored another touchdown on the ground and gained five rushing yards on four carries, mostly sneaking for conversions in short-yardage situations. The 49ers only threw a total of 24 passes the whole game, while running the ball 45 times, so Garoppolo was not able to accumulate much volume, and his average depth of target was just moderate. The Niners were leading by a wide margin the whole game, so they were in a run-heavy game script. It seems like coach Kyle Shanahan would prefer to rely on running the ball when it works. Garoppolo, who will remain the starting QB for the rest of the season, won't put up many 300 yards performances, but he should have some more multi-touchdown games and could make a reliable QB2 in superflex leagues.
